"I'm a real person with prosthetic legs." No legs, but still dancing mechanical girl, called Liao Zhi.  
 
Survivors of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. She lost her 10-month-old daughter, her mother-in-law and both her legs after being trapped for 26 hours on the fourth floor of the collapsed building. Her mother was still out when the disaster struck, and her father stayed behind to help others. In order to save her life, Liao Zhi, a dance teacher, signed the consent form for amputation. The loss of legs, the loss of loved ones, the hand of fate is not over. Liao and her ex-husband ended their marriage six months after the earthquake. Liao Zhi, 23, began to rebuild his life on the ruins. After the earthquake, she became a symbol of strength and hope. Liao Zhi learned to walk twice in his life. The first time was at nine months, holding my mother's hand and learning to support myself with my legs. Step by step, step by step. The second time I was 24. An amputation, a prosthesis, a leg that doesn't belong to this body, step by step, step by step. In 2008, Liao had two surgeries.
Her leg was amputated in May and she underwent a second amputation in July because of an infected wound. After leaving the hospital, she began living with her prosthesis for 12 years.
When liao zhi first wore the artificial leg, he weighed only 25 kg. He could not lift the artificial leg, which weighed nearly 10kg, and it was difficult for him to stand up straight. "The first time I stood up, I felt like I was floating and I couldn't lift my legs." Not to mention climbing up and down the mountain city of Chongqing. She was afraid to leave the house for fear of falling and not getting up again. Returning to a normal life, she found herself thinking too simple. In 2009, Liao received a grant from a foundation to go to Canada for a new prosthetic leg. In that process, Liao zhi's concept of prosthetics was completely updated. The doctor asked her, "What do you want to do? Would you like to swim, run, ski, climb, dance, or grow tall?" "I want to grow taller!" Liao Zhi blurted out.
Also that time, Liao Zhi discovered that not all prosthetics need to be made into skin color, from the appearance of a real leg.  
 
The technician let Liao Zhi choose the color of the acceptance cavity. Ultraman, spiderman, Superman... You can make it any way you want.
"I suddenly realized that prosthetics can be like works of art. It's like an addition to your body, not a drag." Go back to China with those new legs.
In 2013, Liao took part in CCTV's . She wanted to try out more dance styles and recapture the way she was before the earthquake, when she was wearing high heels. And at that time Liao Zhi wears prosthesis, can't wear high-heeled shoes at all. She found a prosthetic company in Shanghai to customize new limbs. It was there that Liao zhi met Charles. Charles, a prosthetics technician, was sent to meet Liao zhi because of the same belief. Charles, who is Chinese-American, knew nothing about Liao zhi's fame in China. At first, Liao zhi was just one of Charles's patients. 'He told me about the mechanics of the human body, bones and muscle groups, which I didn't really understand at first, but it turned out to be really useful as the distortions were slowly being corrected.' Charles, who made Liao Zhi impatient at the beginning, won liao Zhi's trust with his professionalism.  
"I learned then that wearing a prosthetic leg is a systematic project. If it is not properly worn, not only the leg will be affected, but also the pelvis and spine will be irreversibly damaged."
Liao zhi found that Charles cared more about whether the legs helped her walk better than She did. Liao Zhi still remembers that it was a sunny day when she fell in love with Charles. At that time, Charles used a string to tie the tool to Liao zhi's leg for easy measurement, and the other end of the string was tied to his leg for easy fixing.
"At that moment, I suddenly felt that this man in the plaid shirt was connected to my life by a thread." In the fourth month of their acquaintance, Charles invited Liao Zhi to a hot pot dinner and asked him formally, "May I invite you to be my girlfriend?" At that moment she blurted out, "Yes." According to Charles, prosthetics, like glasses, are just tools for us. On their first date, Charles encourages Liao Zhi to put on a short skirt and expose her prosthetic leg to go out with him. "It's not something to hide." In May of the following year, they held a wedding and Liao Zhi became the may bride.
At the wedding, Liao Zhi appeared in a wheelchair. Charles was there to put on a prosthetic leg for Liao Zhi, hoping that all relatives and friends could accept liao Zhi's disability. Since then, Charles has made a lot of legs for Liao zhi: special running legs, daily legs, legs specially designed for the body changes during pregnancy...
Liao zhi's most commonly used pair of legs now consists of three parts. The feet are wrapped in skin color EVA material. In summer, Liao paints her "feet" with colorful nail polish. Above the instep are two black "ankles", which can be adjusted to the Angle of flat shoes or high heels. Then up, it is two silver connection tube, that is Liao Zhi's "leg". The leg is connected to the knee by two white receptions that, unlike traditional prosthetics, fit neatly into the skin, allowing force to flow through the leg.  
 
Statistics show that China has 85 million people with disabilities, including nearly 25 million with physical disabilities. 25 million, or 1.8% of China's total population. 1.8 out of 100 people. But when you walk down the street, you hardly see amputees. From the earliest known as "disabled", to renamed "disabled", behind has been a great social progress. However, many people with disabilities are no longer in the state of illness, and the obstacles brought by their bodies are part of their daily life. Society's perception of people with disabilities is slowly changing. Liao Zhi is one of the more fortunate and courageous amputees.  
 
From amputation, to having a pair of prosthetics, to getting used to living with them, every amputee has one challenge after another. Many people can't face their bodies for a long time after an amputation and don't have the courage to go for an evaluation before prosthetic surgery. The biggest dilemma is the obstacle in the mind of the disabled. Liao zhi gave amputees like her a name: "Mechanical people." Whether it's a prosthesis or a cane, the machine is part of the amputee's body.
"I'm an amputee, and I accept it. I find a way out of this state."
She said: "My legs belong to me, I don't belong to them, they are loyal to me, I want to live my life."
