The history and future of the development lower limb prosthesis

Prosthesis is the artificial prosthesis specially designed and assembled by means and methods of engineering technology to make up for the incomplete defect of amputees or limbs, also known as "prosthesis".

Development of lower limb prostheses
Starting in the 1950s, the transition to modern prosthetics began.

At the same time of the continuous improvement of the mechanical structure of prostheses, people also introduced electronics, air pressure, hydraulic technology into the field of prostheses, and realized the complex control of the support period and swing period on the component prostheses. But the main materials of prostheses in this period were still alloy steel and aluminum alloy.
In the 1980s, people began to introduce a large number of new technologies and materials into the field of prosthesis, the most typical of which is the realization of titanium alloy, carbon fiber and computer intelligent control of prosthesis, which makes the technology of lower limb prosthesis enter a broader development world.
During this period, titanium alloy component lower limb prosthesis and carbon fiber composite component lower limb prosthesis were introduced, and intelligent control device with microprocessor to control the swing speed of lower limb prosthesis was invented successively, energy storage prosthesis such as Seattu and Flax foot and famous ischium containing receiving cavity were invented. In the 1990s, lower limb prosthesis technology became more perfect and various products became more abundant.

These classification methods provided a new development framework for further enriching and improving the existing product system.
At the same time, in the 80 s to produce some new products and new technologies, such as titanium alloy, carbon fiber artificial limbs, energy-storage feet, air pressure, hydraulic and computer control unit, accept cavity computer aided design and manufacturing techniques, thermoplastic plate cavity, silicone rubber lining sleeve until more perfect and popular, also there are some new products such as a new generation of multi-link knee, accept cavity airbag device, etc.
After entering the 21st century, the development of lower limb prosthesis technology is more rapid.
The research and development of receiving cavity and residual limb interface products make residual limb more comfortable, better control of prosthetic limb, residual limb force distribution is more uniform, computer intelligent control is more precise, more scientific and reasonable, more humanized and so on.
