MP Hilary Benn Visits Steeper HQ

The Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Member of Parliament for Leeds South and Minister for Northern Ireland, paid a special visit to Steeper HQ. The visit, organised in collaboration with the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA), highlighted the critical role UK healthcare manufacturers play in both regional employment and national healthcare innovation.
Mr Benn was given an exclusive tour of Steeper Group’s state-of-the-art 4,700 sq metre facility, where he witnessed firsthand the expert craftsmanship behind cutting-edge prosthetic limbs, including the world-renowned Espire Elbow, as well as the intricate handcrafting techniques used to create bespoke orthotic devices.
Speaking about the visit, Andrew Nicol, Services Director at Steeper Group, said: “It was an honour to welcome Hilary Benn to our facility and showcase the incredible work our team does in transforming lives. As a major employer in Leeds South and a strategic supplier to the NHS, we stressed the importance of working closely with the government to drive innovation, create jobs and enhance patient outcomes. Our products don’t just serve the UK – they are exported globally, reinforcing the UK’s reputation as a leader in medical technology.”
During discussions, Steeper emphasised the essential role of industry collaboration with government, particularly through organisations like the BHTA, to ensure the NHS has access to the latest advancements in medical devices and patient care solutions. Mr Benn was also briefed on the recent investments made by Steeper in sustainable manufacturing, including its adoption of 3D printing technology to produce orthotic insoles—an initiative that has cut material waste by nearly 70% whilst improving patient outcomes.
