NHS England Contract Steeper to Provide Prosthetic Services in Kent and Medway Region

2026-01-06 Hits:
We're pleased to announce that Steeper has been commissioned by NHS England to provide prosthetic services in the Kent and Medway region. As of Monday 1st December 2025, we have integrated services at the Kent and Medway Disablement Service Centre into the Steeper network, marking an important milestone in our long-standing partnership with the NHS.

For local service users, this news means continued high-quality prosthetic care, delivered by the same trusted team you already know. For our colleagues across prosthetics and orthotics, it represents an exciting expansion for Steeper, as we introduce a new model of multidisciplinary NHS service delivery.

Providing NHS Services for Kent and Medway
While we have been delivering prosthetic clinical care, manufacturing, and administrative services for more than 100 years, this is the first time we will be providing a fully integrated service that also includes medical, physiotherapy, nursing and occupational therapy.

This contract will allow Steeper to deliver a more complete pathway of amputee rehabilitation and will strengthen prosthetic and rehabilitation care for patients across the region, empowering us in our mission to Care for All.

Andrew Nicol, Clinical Services Director at Steeper, commented, "We are excited to introduce this new kind of service to our portfolio of NHS contracts, encompassing the full scope of prosthetic services for patients. Our team have worked hard to develop an improved service provision for amputees in the Kent and Medway area, including sourcing a new clinic location which will improve clinical and manufacturing facilities. We are committed to supporting patients and staff through this transition and beyond, ultimately providing services that care for all.

What it Means for Existing Patients
While the service will now be known as the Kent and Medway Prosthetics Centre, existing patients can rest assured knowing they'll see the same friendly faces when using the prosthetic services. Any changes to appointments will be communicated directly, and no other action is required. Our aim is to provide a seamless transition, enhanced over time by the improvements we will introduce.

Improving Prosthetic Services in the Region
As part of our commitment to improving prosthetic services in Kent and Medway, the service will relocate to a new, purpose-designed clinic in Maidstone. Offering excellent transport links, ample accessible parking, a spacious clinical environment and purpose-built manufacturing, therapy and consultation rooms, we're confident the new facility will support us in our goals to provide the best possible care.

The retrofit has already begun, and more details on the opening of the new clinic and what patients can expect will be communicated in due course. We look forward to working with patients, clinicians and partners to build this new pathway over the next nine years and possibly beyond.
