A 20-year-old disabled girl had no choice but to find a "home" at a rescue station in Qingdao. The girl's legs were amputated after she was burned in a fire last year and her father tried to make her beg for money by using her as a cash cow.
In a spacious room at the station, Song Xifen, 20, a double-leg amputee who worked in a sock factory in Qingdao in January 2008, had both her lower legs amputated in April after her legs were badly burned in a dormitory fire. She was fitted with two artificial limbs by the city's Disabled Persons' Federation. Later because of cruel father forced disabled she begged to earn money, but under she fled from home, hiding in the rescue station, here temporarily settled down.
Talking about her father, Little Song said angrily, "My bad father left me to my grandmother to raise and never cared about me. Now that I am disabled, he wants to force me to beg on the street to make money for him." After she was burned last year, she said, doctors recommended an early amputation to get a prosthetic leg, but her father pulled her out of the hospital and forced her to beg for more than 10 days.
"Later my uncle took me back to my hometown to take care of my health. In April, I had my limbs amputated in the hospital. In July, I was fitted with a prosthetic limb in the DISABLED persons' Federation." To avoid being forced to beg again by her father, Song said, she hid in a relief station to avoid her father.

As for Xiao Song's experience, the head of the rescue station said that she met the rescue conditions, and the staff were very concerned and sympathetic to her, and put her in the rescue center to live permanently. "The girl is very kind and strong. She helps the staff to clean, take care of her roommates, make meals, fold quilts, wash clothes and so on." Song said she did not want to spend all day in the rescue station doing nothing, she plans to become a disabled athlete. "I can't sit around and want to be a paralympian."
